Early December, within the first few days, I had called the kids school to ask a question. I was informed that my husband’s name was not listed anywhere in their files. in fact, they hadn’t even known he existed. I let my husband know this information. On December 4th, he wrote a letter to the SI of the school district, submitting a copy of the divorce papers, showing that Ex had sole physical custody, but he shared Joint Legal Custody of his kids. He also asked for the record to show that he was entitled to receive any school records, progress reports, etc. that’s pertaining to his children, sent to his home address.
It was a Sunday. Keith was off work. He took our 2 year old daughter out for a walk.
Ex called at 1045am, Dec. 10, 1995. She asked to speak to Keith and and I her he was out, and asked if so could take a message. She said “ only if it’s today.” I told her I didn’t think it would be today, but I would give him the message. She paused for a about 30 seconds and asked, “ you don’t think it would be today? Why’s that?” I should have just hung up right then, but I had to mindful of how the kids would react.
I told her, as if it were any of her business, that I didn’t think it would be today because we had plans and we were leaving right when he got back. She became belligerent, yelling, “ No! I want to talk to him, NOW! I know he’s there!” I said, “no he’s not, he’s gone, goodbye.” and hung up.
She had her daughter call 3 minutes later, and left a message, about mailing a candy order out soon and to call her back.
3 minutes later, at 1051am, The ex called yet again. This time she left a message. She said, “ it’s ( name). I hope I got the right number, I can’t tell by the message, and I’m leaving a message for Keith. I’m “trying” to call regarding the children. I have several things we need to talk about, um, if this was an “Emergency” how the heck would I get a hold of you? Um, I guess I could just try writing if you can’t call me back, or if my screen, my calls are being screened and monitored, you’re not going to get it so I’ll send you something directly to you. Thank you.” And she hung up.
All that because Keith wasn’t home.
